Competence Exam Gouge There are 2 forms of the gouge. The "official" gouge is a comprehensive list of questions which we have historically seen on the FAA Military Competence Exam. The "unofficial" gouge is a narrowed-down list of potential questions you may see on your exam. Please remember that the gouges provided are guides and may not provide every question you may have on your exam. Historically, if you study the "unofficial" gouge you may see up to 5 questions which are not listed on the gouge. If you study the "official" gouge you may see 1-2 questions which are not listed on the gouge. In order to maintain the integrity of each test, the FAA may shuffle the answer stems and make modifications to the wording of the questions.
